THE ELECTIONS COMMISSION

The Student Association Elections Commission is a group of five undergraduate students who administer and oversee all internal and external officer elections to the UAlbany Student Association.

Commissioners are nominated by the SA President (1), the SA Senate Chairperson (1), and the Office of Student Activities (3). They are approved by the Senate and serve a one year term that may be renewed.

Dylan Cohen

Elections Commission Chair

Isabella Blauvelt-Mercado is a dedicated and experienced student leader at the University at Albany, SUNY, where she is currently pursuing a double major in Political Science and Philosophy with a minor in Spanish. As the Acting Chair of the Elections Commission, Isabella brings a strong commitment to public service, civic engagement, and leadership to her role within the University at Albany Student Association.

With aspirations of attending law school post-graduation, Isabella continues to leverage her skills and experience to make meaningful contributions to the university community. Her leadership within the Elections Commission and broader UAlbany community underscores her passion for fostering a dynamic and inclusive campus environment where every student’s voice is heard.

Kelsey Classen

Elections Commissioner

  • Kelsey Classen is a senior at the University at Albany who is double-majoring in Chemistry and Music. Her experience in starting two organizations through the Student Association gave her skills in leadership and communication. As Elections Commissioner, she strives to ensure that the election process is fair and accessible to all students. In her free time, she does mixed media art, plays piano, and tests experiments for the Chemistry Club!

    With her experience in the legal field, and leadership roles on different Executive Boards on Campus, she gained skills in being impartial, and ethical, assessing events objectively while making sure each voice is heard and respected. 

    In her role as the Elections Commissioner, she strives to ensure we have just and fair elections while upholding to the true values of SA. As future leaders of tomorrow, let us lead by example and have a great college experience.

Coen Nelson

Elections Commission Vice Chair

  • Coen Nelson is a Junior at the University at Albany, majoring in Public Policy with minors in Emergency Preparedness and Philosophy and Law. He has been serving on the EC since fall of 2024 and enjoys being able to get hands on experience with elections while also being able to give back to the UAlbany community. In his spare time he also does Taekwondo, boxing, plays guitar, and serves as a peer mentor with the university.

  • Brendan Cooper is a dedicated student at the University at Albany, SUNY, where he is pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Emergency Preparedness, Homeland Security, and Cybersecurity. Brendan is committed to using his knowledge and skills to contribute meaningfully to both his academic community and the broader field of emergency management and security.

    Balancing his rigorous academic pursuits with his responsibilities in student government, Brendan is dedicated to fostering a campus environment where every student’s voice is heard and valued. His role as an Elections Commissioner is marked by a commitment to upholding democratic principles and ensuring that the election process is both accessible and trustworthy.
