THE ELECTIONS COMMISSION
The Student Association Elections Commission is a group of five undergraduate students who administer and oversee all internal and external officer elections to the UAlbany Student Association, as well as outside elections for UAlbany’s SUNY SA delegates and the student University Council Representative.
Commissioners are nominated by the SA President (1), the SA Senate Chairperson (1), and the Office of Student Activities (3). They are approved by the Senate and serve a one-year term that may be renewed.

Coen Nelson
Elections Commission Chair
Coen Nelson is a senior from Chittenango, New York, majoring in Public Policy with minors in Emergency Management, Cybersecurity, Homeland Security, and Philosophy and Law.
Having been involved in the public sector in some form throughout his life, Coen is in his third year on the Elections Commission and is dedicated to using his experience to uphold free, fair, and efficient elections for the 2026-2027 school year.

Hello! My name is Baran, I’m a senior from Athens, Greece with Iranian heritage, and I am a dual major in Biology and Psychology! I joined the Elections Commission last year because democracy has been instilled in me as a core value through my culture, and I am passionate about maintaining a fair, honest, and efficient democracy here at UAlbany’s Student Association. I am honored to be serving as the Vice Chair for this academic year!

Alex Toop is a senior studying Political Science and History here at UAlbany, and has served on the Commission since the Fall of 2025. Having a lifelong interest in elections and the laws surrounding them, he enjoys the hands-on experience of election administration that the EC provides. Outside of work, he enjoys strategy games, Grateful Dead, and taking care of his plant collection.
